Bateaux Below's Underwater Archaeology Study of the "Wiawaka Bateaux"

In 1987, members of the team that became known as Bateaux Below began a multiyear study of seven 1758 bateaux shipwrecks lying in 20 to 45 feet of water. Known as the "Wiawaka Bateaux," these vessels ranged in length from 27 feet 2 inches to 36 feet. Practicing nonintrusive underwater archaeology, each bateau was drawn in plan view and the site plan was constructed.
